5 ways to attract passive job seekers
It’s no secret that the best employees are taken…but that doesn’t mean you can’t pitch them. Sure, you’ll have to go up against their company loyalty but anything’s goes in today’s economy. In a 2014 report by LinkedIn, 45% of employed respondents were open to talking with a recruiter.

Now, we all know that if you want to win the championship you have to build a team of champions and sometimes those individuals are on other teams.

How do you motivate the passive job seeker to leave their current role for your role?

1) Present Only High Value Benefits and Downplay any Potential Fallout
In other words you need to prove that the grass is greener on the other side and show that there are no downsides to switching employers.

2) Offer a Higher Salary and Better Benefits
The 2014 LinkedIn Report ranked this as the #1 reason for passive job seekers who are considering a new job.

3) Offer Them More Freedom and Improved Work/Life Balance
Give them more flexibility in terms of work hours, vacation, etc. in strong contrast to where they are now.

4) Offer Opportunities for Career Advancement
Show them that you have a succession plan in place and that joining your team will give him or her the opportunity to move up the ranks.

5) Become a Persuasive Negotiator
This is probably the one skill that will give you an unfair advantage. I highly recommend you look into the books and workshops of Dr. Robert Cialdini. Everyone thinks they are a great negotiator but the fact is that most people don’t know what really influences human behavior.

Where do you find passive job seekers?

(*) Attend networking events, trade shows and conferences
Strike up relationships where the talented flock. You might attend an event that’s targeted at executive chefs for example.

(*) Online Databases of Active & Passive Job Seekers
Seek resume databases that hold thousands of passive job seekers. ResuBox offers an array of candidates for example.

(*) Social Media and LinkedIn
Passive job seekers have their eyes peeled for what’s on the internet. Tailor your job ads to attract them and be upfront about what you’re offering.

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”
